As a wedding stationery designer, I pull most of my inspiration from the theme of your event. I love to draw elements of your location, venue, and personal aesthetic into the design. So you can imagine my excitement when I got to work alongside Sofia Ocampo Events for a wedding at Castello Vicchiomaggio in Tuscany, Italy!
Chloe and Nick wanted something iconic, and that’s exactly what they got with Castello Vicchiomaggio. This historic venue is perched atop the hills in Chianti, one of Tuscany’s famous wine-producing towns. The old stonework, sprawling vineyards, and lush gardens made this wedding feel straight out of a 2000s romcom (I’m looking at you, Letters to Juliet).

Stationery for the Welcome Party
On our first call, Chloe explained that the weekend had a few different aesthetics. She wanted the welcome party to feel more “aperol-spritz” inspired, while the wedding day itself was more romantic and timeless. I wanted to find a way to blend these two expressions so everything felt intentional and cohesive.
Luckily, their wedding planner, the lovely Sofia Ocampo Events, shared all her pictures of the venue. I pored over them, soaking in the feeling of the place. While looking through the photos, I spotted an orange tree on the property, and ideas began to spark! I began searching for botanical illustrations, finding the perfect silhouette of just one branch with a piece of fruit growing. I began playing with this design for the welcome party, incorporating the Amalfi vibes and Aperol Spritz aesthetic the bride was hoping for.
Because Chloe loves soft, neutral tones, I softened the colors of the design. I opted for a soft beige background and toned down the brightness of the fruit. I worked with Virginia Lucas Heart, a calligraphy artist, to ensure we had a perfect mix of classic and fun calligraphy on the invitations, welcome cards, and signage!

Classic & Timeless Wedding Stationery
Once I had a strong vision for the welcome party stationery, I needed to find a way to seamlessly blend it with the traditional Tuscan invitations the bride was envisioning. I returned to the photos the wedding planner had given me of Castello Vicchiomaggio, noticing minute details about the architecture and environment.
I knew I needed to incorporate Cyprus trees somehow. Because can you really have a Tuscan wedding and not highlight the trees? I formed a pocket of overlapping Cyprus trees to hold the invitation suite, and later used that same design on the menus to tie it all together. We did a tonal letterpress impression, which made them feel textured and natural. The rounded shape of the invitation itself was inspired by the archways at the Villa. Every element of Chloe and Nick’s wedding stationery was designed to immerse them and their guests in the experience of being abroad and in love.
